City officials say they want answers after two firefighters died fighting flames in the Deutsche Bank building near Ground Zero last week.
State Sen. Eric Adams (D-Brooklyn) says he wants to know what could have been done to prevent the tragedy from occurring. He is proposing the creation of a task force of retired firefighters to inspect buildings that are under construction or about to be demolished.
Adams is also calling for the creation of an informational database that tells officials which areas are potentially hazardous to firefighters.
Adams says the time is right for the city to take such preventative action.
