As the Brooklyn community continues to mourn fallen NYPD officer Russel Timoshenko, local elected officials and community leaders gathered in Crown Heights Saturday with a message.

The officer died July 14 from gunshot wounds to his head, which he received in a Crown Heights traffic stop on July 9. Dexter Bostic, Robert Ellis and Lee Woods face murder charges in the incident.

Leaders marched in silence from Timoshenko?s precinct to the spot where he was shot. Leaders said they want the world to know that they will not tolerate the type of violence that took Timoshenko?s life and will do everything they can to make it stop.

City Council members said will introduce legislation to make sure gun owners register their weapons every year. They also said they would propose a bill to rename part of the street where Timoshenko was shot after the officer.

Russel Timoshenko was posthumously promoted to detective by Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
