A Brooklyn woman pleaded not guilty today to second-degree murder in connection with the dismembered body found on Long Island earlier this month.
Leah Cuevas, 42, was arraigned this afternoon and held without bail.
Police say the dismembered woman found in Bay Shore has been identified as Chinelle Latoya Thompson Browne. The body was found in Bay Shore on July 8. Her arms and head were found in separate locations in Hempstead in the following days.
Prosecutors say the two women got into an argument over rent and utilities before the 27-year-old went missing.
Neighbors in Brownsville tell News 12 that Cuevas was not Browne's landlord, but did assist in managing the building and was apparently trying to collect money for utilities.
Browne's husband, Dale Browne, was at the arraignment Thursday. He and their four children still live in Guyana. He says he is not ready to tell the children how their mother was killed.
