Members of the LGBTQ community in Brooklyn gathered for a town hall meeting Tuesday night following the terror attack at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

Though the meeting was planned months in advance, the attack at Pulse was the main focus.

Activists, politicians, artists and journalists gathered at BRIC to address numerous challenges facing the LGBTQ community, including job and housing discrimination, racial disparities and health facing the community.

The meeting was a platform for experts to discuss a vision for moving forward.

People at the meeting said although they face hate, their message is to refuse to be afraid.

Rep. Carlos Menchaca spoke at the meeting and said even though people are angry, they must come together.

"We have got to get together and have conversations so we don't get stuck in the anger and do really good work together as a family," he said.

Menchaca said a chief concern is passing stricter gun laws to get assault rifles off the streets.
