A local leader is looking for a way to solve the problem of overcrowded buses in the borough.
Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz says he has heard too many complaints about the Bx7 and Bx10 buses being too full. Many riders also say there is heavy congestion in the Kingsbridge area, leaving people to wait more than 40 minutes for a bus.
New York City transit officials met with Riverdale residents at Community Board 8's Traffic and Transportation meeting last month to discuss the problem. They determined that buses are delayed because of congested points at Presbyterian Hospital, 179th Street George Washington Bridge and 225th Street.
Dinowitz says that while officials have implemented temporary changes by adding more shuttle buses, the changes need to be more permanent. "If you come here on any weekday, you'll see what a zoo it is. People should not have to put up with that," he says.
Dinowitz says the city needs more buses and may need more bus routes. He says he approached the MTA with examples of additional bus lines.
News 12 has reached out to the MTA and it issued a statement, saying it will reach out to the Department of Transportation to see if anything can be done about adding more permanent shuttle buses to the area.
