Local politicians react to U.S., Israel strike on Iran

Local officials and political figures throughout New York City are taking to social media to voice their thoughts on the recent attack against Iran.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani spoke out against the attack on X, calling it “an illegal war of aggression.”

Rep. Adriano Espaillat, a Democrat representing parts of Manhattan and the Bronx, expressed disapproval on X, stating in part, “Donald Trump’s illegal strikes on Iran will drag America and our allies into an endless war, putting innocent lives at risk.

Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, a Democrat, criticized President Donald Trump on X, saying “Americans will not stand for another reckless war that endangers families here and abroad.”

Democrat Brooklyn Councilmember Chi Ossé also opposed the act in a post on X. “Dozens of Iranian children are dead. We cannot start another endless war and another endless slaughter,” he said in part.

Rep. Nydia Valazquez, a Democrat who represents parts of Brooklyn and Queens, echoed the same sentiment on her X page, calling the strikes “illegal” and accused Trump of “dragging us into another endless conflict.”

Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, of Staten Island, voiced approval for the decision on X. “The United States, the Middle East and the world will be a safer and more peaceful place when the oppressive and murderous Iranian regime is eliminated.”
