One East New York charter school is using the power of words and the stroke of a pen to strengthen the bond between sons and their fathers.
Fathers and male caregivers wrote touching words for "Letters to our Sons," a forum at Achievement First Apollo Elementary School in East New York. The forum helps fathers build strong and healthy relationships with their boys.
Felicia Walker, Counselor at Achievement First Apollo Elementary School, started "Letters to our Sons" because she wanted to get fathers more involved in their sons' lives and education.
The school also offers other programs for boys like "The Gentleman's Club," a program where older students mentor younger ones.
The Achievement First Apollo Elementary School hopes its unique approach to father-and-son relationships will translate into more confident students who are ready to excel.
