Longwood residents are outraged over an alleged refusal by the city to fix a damaged fence that is both unsafe and an eyesore.
The fence, located at the corner of Kelly Street and Westchester Avenue, is riddled with rusty nails and has collapsed onto the sidewalk. People who live in the area say they have to walk in the street to avoid the garbage collecting nearby. Community activists say the space behind the fence is an illegal dump site, but that trash still finds its way back there. The borough commissioner has issued several violations against the property owner and has acknowledged the severity of the unsafe conditions. Brijall Realty Corp., the property owner, claims it has already ordered a chain-link fence to be installed next week.
