Family and friends said their final goodbyes Tuesday to a 16-year-old who died in a crash on Monday in Kensington.
Umedjon Juraev, a rising junior at John Dewey High School, was riding his new scooter Monday with two of his friends on the back when the incident occurred.
As shown in surveillance video, the scooter and box truck collided while turning right at the intersection of Ditmas and Coney Island avenues. One of Juraev's friends was treated at the hospital for injuries, the other was treated on scene for minor injuries.
Friends of the teen say they are heartbroken and are shocked to hear the news. On Tuesday, they packed a mosque on Ocean Parkway in Kensington to show their respects.
Juraev's friend Christian says he was a goofball, and that he was the "silly one" of the bunch who always had his whole class laughing.
His friend Diyorbek says he was a lover of soccer and playing video games. The only child lived with his mother whom he was said to be very close to.
Police say a 48-year-old driver of the truck remained on scene and is being questioned. At this time no arrests have been made and no charges have been brought in the driver.
