Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado has announced activist and nurse India Walton as his running mate in the state's upcoming Democratic gubernatorial primary election.
Walton, from Buffalo, became known statewide after winning the Democratic primary for Buffalo mayor in 2021, defeating a four-term incumbent.
If elected, their partnership would make them the first all-Black governor and lieutenant governor ticket elected in New York State history.
Walton has spent years in Albany working alongside community groups on reforms, including as the lead organizer of the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act in Western New York. She has also advocated for healthcare access, tax fairness, and immigration protections.
