Luna Park officials, donated a $15,000 check to a Coney Island youth football team after their equipment was stolen.

After hearing that the Coney Island Sharks gear was taken back in May, Luna Park officials donated the check for the park's first-ever Christmas in July at the amusement park on Sunday.

"We reached out, and it really opened our hearts and our eyes -- we have to contribute," says Luna Park President Alessandro Zamperla. "We have to help this great organization, you know, that is really making the difference for the community."

Coach and founder of the Coney Island Sharks, Rodney Knight, says he could not be happier.

The money will help the team replace the equipment, league fees, travel and play games.

"I hope we can get new uniforms and new stuff for our team," says Coney Island Sharks player Sean Jones.

Half of the team's helmets, shoulder pads and training gear were stolen from the trailer where they were stored.

Knight says kids between the ages of six and 14 are welcome. The program has been around for 29 years.

Officials say the matter is still under investigation.
