324ds agoMacArthur Airport will soon be getting some much-needed upgrades.
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand announced that the airport is receiving $14 million under the federal government's new infrastructure law.
The funds will be used to upgrade the main terminal building utilities and the fire and life safety systems.
This will help maintain current building codes and provide greater energy efficiency.
"The terminal is in some instances 60 years old," says Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter. "Some of the systems that are in there are that old and they have certainly outlived their usefulness. We have repaired them and they're functioning, but they're not optimal."
The funding for MacArthur Airport comes from the $1 billion for airport terminal improvements across the country.
