Crews are working hard at Westchester Greenhouses and Farms, preparing to make this fall season the "apple of your eye."
"Oh, it's such a special time of year," said Joe Chiocchi, the owner of Westchester Greenhouses and Farm. "We're wrapping up our summer fields and our summer crops, and we're moving into mums, pumpkins and, of course, apple cider donuts and hot cider."
The farm has been in Chiocchi’s family since the 1930s, delivering delicious foods and beautiful flowers for multiple generations.
Now that the fall season is in full swing, the farm is busy making some of its famous fall-themed treats like its apple cider donuts.
"We've worked through 10 years to perfect our recipe," Chiocchi said. "We have a few special ingredients that we add to ours. I think it makes our donuts really stand out."
The farm's apple and pumpkin pies are also hot items, ones that keep people coming back for more.
"Some days we can't even keep up making the pies...it just gets overwhelming," Chiocchi joked.
When it comes to decorating your home this fall, the shop also sells its own mums after a summer of hard work in the fields.
"It's a lot of work, a lot of fertilization [and] a lot of pruning to get them just right," Chiocchi said.
After years of finding new ways to celebrate the fall season, Chiocchi said his favorite part is always celebrating with visitors from all over the region.
"We get to serve our community and the community supports us," he said. "I love to see the generations of families when they come in, [saying things like,] 'my grandma used to take me here. Now I'm here with my grandson.' It's just a beautiful thing to see."
Westchester Greenhouses and Farm is located at 332 W. Hartsdale Ave. in Hartsdale.
