Safety and having peace of mind are top priorities at Long Island Egress Pros in West Babylon. The business makes custom covers for egress systems.

"We enjoy what we do. We know every day we're going to save somebody's life or give people peace of mind that they will be safe in their home," said Long Island Egress Pros founder Glen Dauman.

Egress is a critical escape exit during emergencies. Glen says that often gets overlooked. Glen, who was originally a contractor, started the business in 2013 after his son’s experience as a junior firefighter. As a training exercise, his son had to enter a smoke-filled room in full gear. "When he picked up his head, it was pitch black. He realized there was no way he was going to find his way out of there and thought to himself - they'll come get me. And I thought to myself, not in real life," said Glen.

The business started in Glen's Old Bethpage garage, and now they're creating their projects inside their West Babylon warehouse facility. Now, Glen says Long Island Egress Pros became known for its one-day, no-mess installation process, alleviating the stress for homeowners.

Glen wants to continue to create, install and educate. He also hopes his son will take over the family business. "We designed and donated egress training systems to Nassau and Suffolk fire academics," said Glen. "We have a patent on our egress training system - we're working to distribute that across the country as well."
