Maimonides Medical Center celebrated the 10th anniversary of its cancer center on Tuesday.
In honor of the occasion, the center hosted a party to recognize all of their patients past and present. Cancer survivors took part in a parade led by the Brooklyn Nets marching band. Physicians and cancer survivors also played music.
"It's hard to believe how fast 10 years goes," said Patrick Borgen, chairman of the Department of Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center. "Ten years ago, who could imagine that Brooklyn had no cancer center, no breast cancer center. For a city of almost 3 million people, that's incredibly hard to believe, 10 years later we're still the only cancer center and the only breast cancer center so it's been a very satisfying run."
The center is Brooklyn's only free-standing comprehensive cancer program.
