Noelle Polanco is ending the year on a high note, scoring her 1,000th point at Fontbonne Hall Academy in Bay Ridge, during Saturday's game against Maria Regina High School.
She’s now the second and youngest Fontbonne Hall player ever to score 1,000 points. The first one to hit the milestone back in 2018 was a senior.
"I knew it was possible, but I didn’t think I’d be able to do it in my junior year," said 16-year-old Polanco after the game.
Polanco has been playing basketball since the second grade, and one of her first coaches, Jo Murphy, says he always knew she had something special.
"She made her first three-pointer when she was in fourth grade, she was so excited about it, we were all excited about it," Murphy said. "Who knew she was going to go on and score 1000 points, that’s a wonderful accomplishment."
Even though her team ended up losing Saturday’s game, Polanco is stepping into the new year with a promising future and plans to pursue basketball in college.
