Make-A-Wish grants the wish of Kingsbridge girl in remission from Leukemia

It is the wish of almost every 6-year-old child: to have a puppy.
Camila Vanderhorst is only 6 years old and has battled leukemia for almost half of her life. Her mother, Eliana Ramos, says when she wakes up, she cannot believe Vanderhorst is still with them.
For the last two years, Vanderhorst has been in remission. Her wish upon all wishes is to have her very own puppy.
Melissa Rau, the wish logistics coordinator at Make-A-Wish, says it was the only thing Vanderhorst would talk about.
“She'd keep coming back to ‘this will be my best friend. I will get to take care of her,’” says Rau.
On Wednesday night, Camila got her wish with a 10-week-old Yorkie she named Coco Melon.
Ramos says seeing her daughter smiling and running around is the best thing that has happened to her.
“It’s a blessing,” says Ramos.
Vanderhorst’s family says they are excited to see Vanderhorst and Coco Melon grow up together.
