A 23-year-old man accused of kicking a child in the face has been released from jail.
A surveillance video recorded on March 6 near Union Street and Schenectady Avenue shows a man kicking a 7-year-old boy in the face for no apparent reason, before calmly walking away.
Police have since arrested Jesse Daniels, charging him with assault and endangering the welfare of a child for this incident.
However, just days after his arrest for the alleged attack, Daniels is already back on the streets since the charges against him don’t qualify for him to be held on bail.
Residents who live near the incident say it’s shocking and angering to see. Although they say it’s hard to believe any of their neighbors could have done something like this, they worry about more of these crimes happening.
“That's very unfortunate,” said one woman in the neighborhood. “And I'm sorry to the community for that, because people’s kids play out here all the time. I have two children myself, so it's just like for him to be kicking kids in the head and just walking scot free. It's very disheartening, actually.”
As this case moves forward, residents say they’re hoping for accountability when Daniels is eventually due back in court.
