A man is dead after getting into an argument with workers at a Bushwick bodega.

Police say they arrived at Royal Deli and Grill on Knickerbocker Avenue Monday night after getting reports of an assault.

According to neighbors, the man, who police have identified as Gerry Hill, was known to be an aggressive person in the area. They say he went to the deli and got into an argument with two of the workers.

The spokesperson for the United bodegas of America Fernando Mateo held a press conference where he said Hill was trying to get behind the counter and actually hit one of the workers. That’s when another worker grabbed an object and hit Hill over the head. Neighbors say he went home but later lost consciousness and was rushed to the hospital but didn’t survive. Mateo said Hill had multiple arrests and blamed what happened on a weak justice system.

"Of course, we know Mr. Hill has a family and of course no one wants to see their family member die. But if the justice system did what they had to do, he would’ve been locked up and he would’ve been alive today."

Mateo maintains this was self-defense.
