A man was sentenced to 65 years to life Monday for the 2006 murder of a 3-year-old girl and the shooting of three others, including the girl?s grandmother.
Emotions ran high during the sentencing of General Lee Waiters in Brooklyn Supreme Court. The mother of the slain girl, Natasha Clark, was so upset that she had to be carried to an EMS team waiting outside. After the ruling, Clark said she plans to create a scholarship fund in the name of her daughter.
The girl?s family said that while the conviction will not bring Tajmere Clark back, it does bring justice.
?This is going to be a process that?s going to live forever,? said Lorenzo Warren, the girl?s uncle. ?It just didn?t hurt one generation, it?s three generations.?
Although the murder was Waiters? first offense, the judge said a severe sentence had to be handed down given the nature of the crime. Waiters will not be eligible for parole for 65 years.
The sentencing comes less than a month after Waiters was convicted on all charges.
