Police say a 29-year-old man is fighting for his life after being shot in the head late Wednesday night in Midwood.

The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. outside 928 Coney Island Ave. Investigators say the victim was standing on the corner when he was hit in the head and body by gunfire. He was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

Neighbors say that the location may be a homeless shelter, but police have not confirmed that. Detectives say they’re still working to determine whether the man was targeted or just an innocent bystander, and if he had any connection to the location.

Police recovered numerous shell casings at the scene. A law enforcement source tells News 12 they are searching for multiple individuals who took off in a gray car after the shooting.

So far, no arrests have been made.
