A man is wanted by police after he was captured on video defiling religious statues in Williamsburg.
Police say the man urinated on two religious angel statues at the Our Lady of Consolation Roman Catholic Church before knocking them to the ground breaking them.
It happened Sunday just before 4 a.m. on Metropolitan Avenue.
News 12 is told the Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the incident.
The suspect was last seen wearing a dark-colored pea coat, beige slacks and Vans brand sneakers.
In a statement, the Brooklyn Diocese says, "The desecration of two statues at Our Lady of Consolation Church this weekend is upsetting, especially when you can see the young man's callous act on video. Statues are sacred and belong to our parishioners, the people of God. It's unfortunate that houses of worship today have become scenes of violence and perhaps the exercise of prejudice and hatred."
News 12 is told the Hate Crimes Task force is investigating the incident, and there is a $2,500 reward in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
It's not the first time Our Lady of Consolation Church has been vandalized. An angel statue was broken back in August of 2013. In December of 2016, video showed men climbing on a statue before it toppled over. And in February 2016, a man pushed over a statue.
