Manhole fire shuts down Longwood block on Christmas Eve

The FDNY says they received the call at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday for a smoking manhole.

A manhole fire in Longwood caused chaos on 163rd Street on Christmas Eve.
The FDNY says they received the call at 9:45 a.m. for a smoking manhole. Crews arrived to find flames and heavy smoke filling the air.
Con Edison was also on the scene. A nearby laundromat lost power during the incident, and several customers reported their laundry was still inside.
No injuries were reported.
Officials say carbon monoxide levels in the area remain normal.
