Marine Park baseball fields plagued by flooding issues
Baseball season is in full swing, but some kids in Marine Park are having trouble hitting the field, even on the sunniest of days.
One coach tells News 12 that the fields become plagued with puddles, sometimes for days, whenever a rainstorm passes through.
The Parks Department has acknowledged the issue, saying it takes longer for the fields to drain due to its age. They add that their heavy usage only makes the soil more compact and worse at absorbing water.
Parents and coaches insist there should be solutions to the problem, and they want the Parks Department to step up.
Among the discussed options is replacing the field entirely, but News 12 is told that is not an option because they are not currently funded for capital renovation.
