Players say the surfaces at the pickleball courts that were installed two years ago in Marine Park are already cracking, bubbling and peeling. They also say the city hasn’t done anything to fix them. Volunteers who maintain the courts daily say they first noticed the damage in October 2023, just two months after the Parks Department unveiled the eight new courts. They say they were told repairs would happen in the spring, but that never happened. “This problem is beyond what we can maintain,” said Mike, a longtime volunteer. The Parks Department said most of the courts are in good condition, and the peeling paint is the result of a non-city paint job. The agency said it has inspected the site and isn’t aware of any injuries related to the damage. The agency added that its citywide sports coating crew will resurface the courts, but no timeline has been set. Councilmember Mercedes Narcisse told News 12 she’s been pressing the Parks Department to make the repairs.
