Masks will still be required in some New York City areas and mass transit after a federal judge ruled to put an end to the mask mandate on airlines and other forms of transportation.
Residents are advised is to keep a mask on their possession because it all depends on where they are and where they're going.
While the federal mask mandate for transportation is over, individual entities can still make their own rules.
Masks are required on all MTA buses and trains as well as the PATH train in New York City.
Those who hail a cab or order an Uber or Lyft in the five boroughs will be required to wear masks. However, masks are optional for cab customers or rideshare users outside of New York City and in New Jersey.
The rules have changed significantly at airports. Travelers inside John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport are required to wear masks but if one is flying out of Newark, that mask is optional.
Masks are also not required on some airlines, including United, JetBlue, American and Delta.
The Biden administration said it will only appeal the mask mandate ruling if the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention believes it is still needed.
