The Massapequa community is still buzzing after their hometown team advanced to the Little League World Series in Pennsylvania.

Businesses and community members are showing their support for their Little League heroes with banners, signs and great deals to cheer on their team.

Joseph Pappalardo, who owns Pappalardo's Pizza Cove, says he is giving away free pizza and Italian ices to children who show up in their baseball uniforms.

"It's such an uplifting story for all of Long Island," Pappalardo says. "It's really wonderful."

This is the first time the Massapequa Little League team has gone to the World Series in their 72-year history.

The most recent time a Long Island team advanced to the Little League World Series was back in 1978 - the Rockville Center Little League team.

Massapequa resident Billy Alba event went shopping for Massapequa T-shirts at New Wave Sports Outfitter in town to show his support for the young hometown heroes.

He says the whole community is behind them.

"They are playing so well - and if I was one of their parents, I would be so proud of these kids," Alba says.

Krisch's Ice Cream Parlot tells News 12 that they will have a party and give the players free ice cream when they come back from the World Series in Pennsylvania.

A watch party for the Massapequa Coast Little League team's first game in the World Series is set to take place Friday at 7 p.m. at Burns Park in Massapequa Park.
