A maternal expo for new and expecting mothers was held at the new La Central YMCA in the South Bronx on Saturday.
First-time mothers, doctors, and elected officials all attended the educational event to spread awareness about maternal health pre- and post-birth.
The first 20 expectant mothers who arrived at the expo received a free maternity photo shoot and “mocktails.”
Mothers were also able to speak to doctors, lactation specialists and insurance companies to learn more about the resources available to them.
"This is important to the Bronx because we are suffering the highest maternal morbidity and infant death rates, so it’s extremely important to bring resources and also the information that people need,” said Assemblywoman Chantel Jackson.
