Mayor Eric Adams unveiled a new executive order to strengthen fire safety enforcement and outreach just over two months after the Twin Parks fire killed 17 Bronx residents.

Adams says the order will increase coordination between the FDNY and the Department of Housing Preservation and Development.

Officials say the goal is for inspectors with HPD to be able to identify safety violations earlier and, in turn, save lives.

HPD will provide the FDNY with access to all fire safety violations and records since January of last year.

The executive order has support of several elected officials both on the local and federal levels.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand says, "The plans Mayor Adams will implement to allow fire departments to collaborate and share data across all necessary agencies will work in partnership with the bill I introduced with Congressman Torres, the Empowering the U.S. Fire Administration Act. Which will help the U.S. Fire Administration to assist and provide the resources our local fire departments need to prevent an incident like the one we saw on Jan. 9."

Another part of the order is fire safety education, which the mayor says they plan to achieve.
