Mayor Adams announces over 1,000 illegal guns removed from NYC streets in 2025

New York City has seen a dramatic reduction in gun violence, with more than 1,000 illegal firearms removed from city streets in the first two months of 2025.
Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced the news from the 75th Precinct in East New York on Monday.
Shootings and homicides have continued to decline for three consecutive years.
Shootings are down by over 21% and homicides by 26%, compared to this time last year.
New York City has seen the fewest number of shooting incidents in its history during the first two months of 2025, with a 14.5% drop compared to the same period in 2024.
The NYPD’s efforts are also focused on ghost guns—untraceable firearms made from parts bought online or printed with 3D printers.
“Each gun we take off the streets is one less tragedy waiting to happen,” said NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch. “We’ve set a new record for the lowest number of shootings in New York City history, and this is just the beginning of our relentless efforts to reduce crime.”
The fight to end gun violence remains a top priority for Mayor Adams and the NYPD as they work to keep all New Yorkers safe.
