The NYPD Neighborhood Safety Team is still in its infancy, but Mayor Eric Adam says that it’s working.
So far, there have been 31 arrests and 10 guns were removed from the streets in just six days.
Mayor Adams was at Police Service Area 77 in Melrose to talk about the success so far.
He says all of this couldn’t have been done without the community's involvement.
“We're not going to allow that in our city, we're not going to enforce the law by breaking the law,” said Adams.
Now expanding on that teamwork, it also includes working with mayors from other cities. Adams mentioned working with the mayors of Washington, Chicago and New Orleans.
He says he hopes to have a Zoom with those mayors again to talk about what's working here in New York and to learn what's working in those cities to increase safety.
