Mayor Eric Adams sat down with News 12's Julia Burns for a 1-on-1 chat on summer safety, Zohran Mamdani, the Montrell Williams case, and the mayor's vision for New York City.
The conversation follows violence near two city pools over the span of a few days, including a shooting near a pool at Crotona Park. News 12 asked the mayor if city lifeguards are equipped to handle such intense situations.
"We want them to save swimmers," said Adams. "It is the job of the police and the PEP workers, park enforcement officers, to do the, keep this public safety part of it. We don't want to ever have lifeguard put themselves in harm's way."
Adams said to expect more police on the streets to respond to an expected increase in violence over the summer.
