Mayor Eric Adams has announced an expansion to the city’s violence intervention employment program.
The program provides jobs to New Yorkers most impacted by gun violence.
Now, the city is putting $54 million into the precision employment initiative which will allow community-based organizations to employ up to 3,000 New York residents.
The initiative began last summer and serves residents in both the Bronx and Brooklyn by connecting them to job training opportunities in several green-economy jobs.
So far, the program has served more than 13,000 participants.
City officials say that since the program started, they've seen shootings decline 21% in Brownsville.
