Mayor Eric Adams made an announcement from the steps of City Hall in support of Ukrainian New Yorkers who either currently reside or have newly arrived as tensions overseas continue.  
Brighton Beach has a massive Ukrainian population with many affected by the war overseas. 
They mayor said earlier that New York is a city of immigrants and will be ready with open arms to provide support and resources as needed.  
A $2 million allocation will provide resources, access to immigration legal assistance, translation and social services.  
The budget will expand personnel and increase access to resources that are already available in the coming weeks.  
This announcement comes on the heels of the Biden administration’s Uniting for Ukraine program that will provide a streamlined process for Ukrainian refugees seeking to come to the United States.  
The Ukraine consulate general to New York City was at Friday’s news conference praising the U.S. government for standing in solidarity.  
The mayor says the initiative will be carried out by multiple city agencies, providers and Ukrainian-serving community-based organizations.
