Mayor Bill de Blasio is considering a controversial move to change safety procedures at New York City public schools.
The mayor is thinking about taking away metal detectors, as arrests at schools have dropped by a third this year.
School safety agent Derek Jackson says that just because the numbers are down, it doesn't mean that teenagers aren't bringing weapons in.
"Because crime is going down doesn't mean that metal detectors should be removed," Jackson says. "It means the metal detectors are serving their purpose, which is to try to keep as many weapons as possible out of the schools."
According to the New York Daily News, more than 400 weapons have been seized since July, including 11 BB guns, 185 knives, 52 box cutters and 64 other weapons.
