Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Monday that Coney Island will be receiving a new ferry landing by 2021.
The route will link Coney Island with lower Manhattan and will include a stop in Bay Ridge.
Officials also say commuters getting on the ferry at Bay Ridge will see that instead of making several stops at Sunset Park, Red Hook and Downtown Brooklyn, the ferry will go straight to Manhattan as part of the new Coney Island route.
Another stop will also be added at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, which will connect with the Astoria line.
Commuters say the new ferry service can't come soon enough.
Officials estimate the total trip to take about 37 minutes, which would cut commute times in half.
Exact scheduling and location of the new pier has yet to be determined, but officials say the pier will be on the northern creek side and not on the beach.
