Mayor Bill de Blasio and Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza announced a new academic plan for the 2021 school year to bridge the educational gap caused by the pandemic.
Carranza says a new student achievement plan will begin with a citywide assessment to get a baseline of what students lost academically.
The city will increase high-quality digital curriculums for every school and launch a new digital hub for all.
The plan will also deepen professional development with teachers to give them proper educational tools to close the gap and expand the Parent University to continue to give parents the resources they need to help students at home.
The mayor says during the crisis, the city has learned how to do new and sometimes better things.
"We learn ways to serve our kids that are different, that can reach them in a more individual manner," de Blasio says. "Our kids are going to need that individual help."
Carranza and de Blasio says they will also address any trauma and medical health crisis that students may have experienced during the pandemic.
