Mayor Bill de Blasio was in Brooklyn Thursday to talk about Sandy recovery efforts and the city's Build it Back program.
The mayor spoke in front of a woman's home on East 102nd Street in Canarsie, where the roof was being repaired through the program. He says they are making progress and easing the stress for homeowners, but not everyone agrees.
The program has added more staff at Build it Back centers, expanded eligibility requirements for homeowners and streamlined the pre-construction process. This has helped them start construction on 132 homes citywide.
Despite these changes, residents insist that the process is still incredibly tedious and very frustrating.
De Blasio promised to get 500 construction starts by Labor Day, but who will be in those 500 remains a mystery.
