Mayor-elect Eric Adams along with other New York City officials announced his scheduled inauguration ceremony in Brooklyn has been postponed. The mayor-elect cited the rise in COVID-19 cases as the reason for the delay.

In a joint statement sent Tuesday, officials explain that "it is clear that our city is facing a formidable opponent in the Omicron variant of COVID-19, and that the spike in cases presents a serious risk to public health. After consulting with public health experts, we have decided that our joint inauguration ceremony will be postponed to a later date to prioritize the health of all who were planning to attend, cover, and work on this major event."

No mention was made regarding a later date for the ceremony. Mayor-elect Adams encourages New Yorkers to stop the spread by getting vaccinated, receiving the booster shot and getting tested.
