Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani's has appointed Mysonne Linen, activist with a criminal history, as part of his transition team.
Linen, Bronx native, is one of the leaders of the advocacy group "Until Freedom", which is a group that focuses on gun violence prevention and criminal justice reform.
The New York Post reports Linen spent seven years in prison for armed robbery in the late-90's.
Mamdani says Linen brings a unique experience and perspective to his criminal legal system transition team.
"We put together a team of more than 400 New Yorkers who are on 17 different committees, and these are New Yorkers who bring with them both fluency of the policies and politics of the city, the places that they've succeeded the places that they've failed. And we will take all of their experiences and their analysis into account as we build a city for each and every person," said Mamdani.
News 12 has interviewed Linen over the years from a Father's Day march against gun violence in the Bronx to launching a campaign in Brooklyn to hold local businesses accountable for helping curb violence in their neighborhoods.
