Mayor Eric Adams has announced progress on several jail-focused initiatives to provide greater care and services for people in custody.
The initiatives include New York City investing $14 million to enhance programming and the release of two feasibility studies that assess the potential of building a renewable energy infrastructure on Rikers Island.
Adams has also directed NYC Health & Hospitals to move forward with the construction of over 350 outposted therapeutic beds.
The move will increase access to specialty health care services and move those who are most clinically vulnerable off Rikers Island.
