Mayor Bill de Blasio signed a bill Wednesday banning oil and gas usage at all new buildings in New York City.
The bill's intention is to make all new and future buildings all electric by 2027. The bill is a part of the mayor's efforts in combating climate change and air pollution.
The mayor also assigned a decarbonization officer who will be responsible for making sure goals are met to reduce carbon emissions by 70% by 2030.
