A Bed-Stuy street corner that was buried with flowers, candles and mementos for two slain NYPD officers is now clear. All that remains is melted wax from the candles that were placed there.
The memorial had continued to grow at Tompkins and Myrtle avenues, the spot where Detectives Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu were shot and killed in their patrol car last month.
The corner was shut down for weeks following the Dec. 20 murders to accommodate mourners, but traffic has now resumed.
A Manhattan man put up an unofficial street sign that says Fallen Officers Way. However, the city says it is slated to come down since he didn't get approval.
The Bed-Stuy community board has advocated for a permanent memorial and is considering possibilities.
The NYPD says it removed the memorial, after consulting with the detectives' families. They say some of the items left behind were handed over to the relatives.
