Meredith Gaudreau, wife of the late NHL star Johnny Gaudreau, announced that she has given birth. The announcement comes seven months after Johnny and his brother, Matthew Gaudreau, were killed while riding their bicycles in South Jersey.

In an Instagram post made on Monday, Meredith Gaudreau wrote that she gave birth on April 1 to a baby boy named Carter Michael Gaudreau. “Same middle name as his daddy,” she wrote. It was the couple’s third child.

Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau were struck by an alleged drunk driver in August. They were in New Jersey to celebrate their sister’s wedding the next day.

Sean Higgins is facing charges related to the crash. Police say he had a blood alcohol level of .087 at the time, which is above the legal limit.

In the weeks following the crash, Matthew Gaudreau’s wife also announced that she was pregnant.
