The Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) has temporarily suspended visitations, leaving hundreds of inmates unable to see their loved ones.
Inmates inside the detention center were making as much noise as possible at the windows on Wednesday to show their displeasure, as only workers had been spotted entering and exiting the building.
On the MDC’s website, a banner can be seen announcing that all visitations have been suspended until further notice.
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, visitations were suspended for security reasons, and that internal security practices and discussions cannot be shared at this time.
News 12 has learned that the warden has the authority to modify programs or operations when necessary with little warning. The bureau says that the decision to suspend visits hasn’t been taken lightly.
The Bureau of Prisons is advising visitors who may have good reason to visit to contact the facility and continue checking the website before traveling to the detention center.
