Mexican restaurant in Park Slope falls victim to hackers, faces uncertain future

The owners of El Nopal in Park Slope say they were scammed out of thousands after a hacker got into their Grubhub account.
Miguel Tufino and Elsa Zamora, the owners of El Nopal, say on April 7 they got an email from Grubhub notifying them of changes to their account.
They say they immediately called and alerted the delivery service. Three days later, they discovered they had been hacked, and the scammers stole $7,000.
Tufino says Grubhub orders are about 60% of their income, and this loss is hitting hard.
For two weeks after the hack, Tufino says they were locked out of their account.
It wasn't until News 12 reached out to Grubhub that they started to make headway.
"If it wasn't for you, we'd still be without updates from them," said Tufino.
Grubhub released the following statement:
“We know how much places like El Nopal Restaurant rely on delivery, and we’re taking this unfortunate and isolated situation very seriously. We're working closely with the restaurant to secure their account and are committed to doing what’s right.”
Tufino said a representative from Grubhub says it's not the first time something like this has happened, and whatever is lost is lost.
Grubhub called Tufino during News 12's interview trying to sort out a deal. Tufino said all he and his wife want is their rightfully earned $7,000.
