Mayor Bill de Blasio's office has announced that Miami-Dade school Superintendent Alberto Carvalho will become New York City's next public schools chancellor.
Carvalho has led Miami-Dade County Public Schools since 2008.
"Alberto Carvalho is a world-class educator with an unmatched track record of success," de Blasio said in a statement. "I am very confident that our extensive, national search has found New York City the best person to lead the nation's largest school system into the future."
Chancellor Carmen Farina announced last year she that she is resigning. She's expected to vacate the position in the coming weeks.
