A Middle Island man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexually abusing his ex-girlfriend's daughter.

Lucas Hires was also sentenced to 20 years of post-released supervision on Wednesday.

He was found guilty in April of sexual conduct against a child and endangering the welfare of a child.

Prosecutors say the victim, who is now 9 years old, had been sexually abused for nearly a year starting when she was only 6 years old.
