Two high school seniors at Midwood High School are getting ready to take their science experiments across the country.

Bilal Azhar and Urooj have been working on their science projects for about a year. Azhar came up with a device that generates power from heat, and Urooj has been working on a way to reduce the number of times people have to go to the dentist. She is trying to eliminate cavities by altering the bacteria found in people's mouths.

Both students recently won first place in their categories at the New York City Science and Engineering Fair.

"I was really excited because it was something I really wanted to do," said Azhar.

The teenagers will now go on to the International Science and Engineering Fair in Arizona next week. If they win first place there, they will have a chance to win tens of thousands of dollars and a grant for their high school.
