A group of veterans is making the transition from the military to the tech industry.
Fourteen former service men and women are getting the chance to turn their startup ideas into real businesses at the NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering in Downtown Brooklyn.
They're the first class to graduate from a 10-week course that helps veterans learn entrepreneurial skills and find opportunities in New York City's innovation economy.
The veterans are now pitching their startups to tech experts and investors, and credit the NYU program with helping them make their dreams a reality.
Each startup receives a certificate of completion at the end of the course. Those that want to continue building their businesses will get to stay at NYU incubators for an additional three months.
The Veteran Entrepreneur Training program was developed by NYU in conjunction with the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. Funding for the program was secured by state Assemblyman Joseph Lentol.
